The Giant's Causeway is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (United Nations Environmental, Scientific and Cultural Organization). This designation was given in 1986 to what has been widely referred to as the eighth wonder of the natural world. The Causeway is the only World Heritage Site site designated in Northern Ireland and one of only three in Ireland. In its 'Natural' category it is only one of two in the United Kingdom. The site includes the Giant's Causeway and the coastline along to Benbane Head, a unique landscape and geological exposure of hexagonal basalt columns. The site is managed by the National Trust, a conservation charity which strives to keep it as natural as possible for the visitor experience, the site is never closed for access. Along with the unique stones there is a modern environmentally friendly building which houses interpretation, cafeteria and retail. There is an overall Causeway Experience ticket of £10:00 that includes entrance to the facilities, a guided walk, audio guide and parking. If you use the Park and Ride shuttle bus in the village of Bushmills the green ticket price gives you a discount on that.
